Now that summer’s pretty much over, we’re hearing about the latest records EDM festivals set. On a smaller, but nonetheless significant, scale was the third Sound Wave Music Festival. With Calvin Harris as the headliner, this event at the Big Surf Water Park in Tempe, AZ drew in 10,000. On a greater scale, Electric Daisy Carnival generated $207 million during this year’s event – a record for the largest EDM festival in the U.S.
Aside from records, more festivals and live performances were announced. For those in or planning to be in Mexico next year, there’s the BPM Festival. This week, the Phase 1 lineup of this week-long event was announced and includes Benoit & Sergio, Carl Cox, Cassy, Dixon, Eats Everything, Henrik Schwartz, Justin Martin, Luciano, Maceo Plex, Nicole Moudaber, Sasha, Sven Vath, Tale of Us, and The Martinez Brothers, among a long list of performers. The festival will be held from January 4 to 13 in Playa del Caremen, Riviera Maya.
Sound Wave is one of growing promoter Donnie Disco’s events, and Something Wicked, a Halloween-themed EDM event in Houston, can be added to that list. Held on October 27, it has Zedd, Flux Pavilion, and Nero headlining.
On the other side of the world, there’s the Glow Music Festival in Mumbai. Over the past few years, India has been growing into a destination for EDM producers and DJs to stop on their tours. Held from December 8 to 9, the Glow Music Festival is expected to be the biggest music event in Asia.
Where will Tiesto be, come New Year’s? As of a recent news statement, he’s expected to headline the party at Atlantic City’s Revel casino.
Multiple releases were announced this week. For your immediate listening, MYNC has Re-Boots Volume 2, which can be downloaded through his Facebook page. Also this month is Tiesto’s collaboration with protégé Allure, a track called “Pair of Dice.”.Their collaboration, released through Musical Freedom, comes out October 8. After that, there’s Dada Life’s latest album, The Rules Of Dada. Coming out on October 16, their release will feature their hit “Kick Out The Epic Motherf-cker.”
For less hit-driven EDM, there’s DJ Dan. His latest release, called Disko Funk Odyssey, blends disco, house, and techno and comes out October 22 on Guesthouse Music. Listen to track “Disco Dancing” here. Flying Lotus, while less mainstream as well, talked about his recent album in Rolling Stone. Until The Quiet Comes features collaborations with Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke.
For future releases, Deadmau5 is dabbling with one more collaboration. In the past, he worked with the Foo Fighters and Cypress Hill, and now Ryan Adams is getting added to that select group. Kaskade is preparing a full-length release for 2013. In speaking will Billboard, the U.S.-based DJ expects to have it finished by the end of this year.
