For over 25 years, KRK has been building and engineering the most iconic, number one selling studio monitors in the industry, the KRK ROKIT. Now with its 4th generation, the KRK ROKIT line of studio monitors has been re-engineered from the ground up.
KRK’s G4 offerings include five, seven, and eight-inch bi-amp variations as well as a ten-inch tri-amp studio monitor. The latest, fourth-generation has been completely redesigned, so let’s first take a look at some specs of one of the monitors in the line.

The KRK ROKIT 7 G4 has a brand-new custom Class D power bi-amp pushing 145 watts of power to the iconic yellow woofer and tweeter, both made of Kevlar®. Kelvar is interesting—I can’t tell you the science behind using Kelvar in this application, but according to KRK, “it ensures the same sonic integrity across all frequencies and minimizes listening fatigue, while offering an incredibly balanced and clear listening experience.” I can hear the difference between this generation and previous generations. To be honest, I’ve always thought the KRK ROKITs were a little too bass-heavy for my recording studio needs. However, having a pair of the KRK ROKITs in my DJ studio…match made in heaven.
The enclosure has been redesigned as well. The front-firing port, the opening below the woofer, does deliver a more balanced sound than previous models. I instantly hear a more even low-end with a nice even punch. The iso-foam pads on the bottom separate the speaker from the surface, which reduces vibration when pushing these to the limit. If you haven’t had or experienced KRK ROKITs, you probably won’t hear a difference. However, if you’re a KRK fan, you will be pleasantly surprised with its clear, clean, and dynamic range. Even running these flat, no coloration was added to my production.
The other impressive bit of tech is the brick-wall limiter, hence the clean and even sound. It turns on automatically when the amp level is maxed out. So now you not only have built-in protection for your investment, but it also balances your sound. I don’t know many producers who are pushing monitors to the max, but this built-in protection is pretty cool.
Now, let’s get to the most impressive tech, the DSP-driven onboard EQ with an LCD screen. As producers, we all have different production environments. From bedrooms to professional recording studios, with the DSP onboard EQ, you now have the ability to dial-in based on your acoustic environments. With 25 EQ settings, you can set up the KRK ROKIT 7 for mixing, and a different setup for mastering…the possibilities are enormous. KRK also has a free app, KRK Audio Tools, which helps you set up your recording environment. You can download the KRK Audio Tools app from the Apple Store or Google Play.
Over the decades, KRK has continued recreating itself, pushing the limits of technology and engineering, and providing consumers with excellent products at an affordable price point. The KRK ROKIT 7 G4 Studio Monitor is right in that sweet spot in terms of size, performance, and design, making the KRK ROKIT an excellent addition to any recording studio or DJ setup.
