As August ends, new music festivals are scheduled for Labor Day weekend, artists are dropping new releases and videos, and Tiesto, with SiriusXM, opened up a competition to aspiring radio hosts.

Multiple new releases, both singles and videos, came out over the past week. On the trance side of things, Shogun with singer Susana put out “Only You” on August 27 through Armada. Through Anjunabeats was Super8 & Tab’s “Fiesta”, also on August 27. For some house, Boys Noize, as well, has been promoting his third release, Out of the Black, which is due in October.

On the remix front, Mario Fischetti, after a visit to MYNC in Cr2’s London Studio, did a remix of CLMD’s “Black Eyes and Blue.” The track is available through Fischetti’s Facebook page. Meanwhile, Ferry Corsten revealed he remixed Justin Bieber’s take on dubstep, track “As Long As You Love Me.” And, Corsten isn’t ashamed to admit he had fun. Is this as close as EDM gets to gossip territory fodder – a trance DJ isn’t afraid to admit he worked with the hottest teenybopper of the moment?

Major Lazer is gearing up for their album Free the Universe, scheduled for release later in 2012, with a video for “Get Free.” Directed by SoMe and set in Jamaica, the video features Amber from Dirty Projectors and includes a cameo from Diplo. Also promoting his own solo release, the Express Yourself EP, Diplo put out his own video over the past week for track “Set It Off.”

Compared to Deadmau5’s latest offering, “Professional Griefers,” the two videos from Mad Decent are relatively low key. Featuring My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, the video, with a UFC theme, has the biggest budget for any EDM video. But, even with the genre’s growing profile, that’s not saying much.

Starting this weekend and going to the end of the year are more EDM festivals. Electric Zoo, New York’s rising EDM event, starts this weekend, while the Chicagoland area gets North Coast, which is including EDM on the bill with hip-hop and jam bands. The San Diego area, meanwhile, has multiple EDM events, including SoCal Music Festival and Tramps Like Us.

The With Your Friends, not scheduled this weekend, was announced over the past week. Set for Nashville and inspired by Skrillex’s and Pretty Lights’ trek across Canada by train, With Your Friends includes Nas, Santigold, 12th Planet, Dillon Francis, Michel Menert, and TOKiMONSTA, along with the two headliners. The event is scheduled for October 26 and 27, and tickets went on sale on Wednesday.

Think you have what it takes to be a radio DJ? This week, Tiesto and SiriusXM announced their partnership. Tiesto is offering college students the opportunity to be featured on his SiriusXM Club Life radio channel in support of the DJ’s Club Life Invasion Tour, which returns to North America in October. A student can host a show at each date, receiving tickets in the process, and at the end of the tour, Tiesto picks the best host for the Grand Prize – a chance for hosting a show on the DJ’s channel for at least six months.
